What this part does
The rear brake caliper houses the brake piston and brake pads, applying hydraulic clamping force to the brake rotor to slow or stop the vehicle. It is bolted to the rear right knuckle and integrates with the parking brake system. When this component fails, it typically seizes, causing the brake pads to drag against the rotor, resulting in excessive heat, uneven pad wear, or a pulling sensation while driving. A failed internal seal will also cause hydraulic fluid leaks and a spongy brake pedal.

Before you order
Verify whether the vehicle it came from and your vehicle share the same parking brake system, as the Mazda 6 was available with both an electronic parking brake (EPB) and a manual cable-operated parking brake depending on the trim and exact production date. The calipers are not interchangeable between the two systems.
If your vehicle is equipped with an electronic parking brake, the system must be placed into maintenance mode using a diagnostic scan tool before attempting to retract the piston. Forcing the piston back without doing so will permanently damage the internal actuator. We recommend replacing brake pads on both sides of the rear axle when replacing a caliper, and a full bleeding of the brake hydraulic system is required after installation.
