The cowl panel sits at the base of the windshield, bridging the gap between the hood and the glass while covering the wiper motor and linkages. It serves as a critical weather shield, directing rainwater into the lateral drain channels and away from the engine bay electrical components and cabin air intake. It also acts as a primary filter to keep leaves and road debris out of the HVAC system. Over time, UV exposure and temperature cycles cause the integrated rubber edge to crack or the plastic to warp. When this seal fails, water can bypass the drainage system and enter the blower motor housing or the footwell, leading to electrical shorts, interior moisture, and mold.

Installation requires the removal of the wiper arms; a specialized wiper arm puller is highly recommended to avoid damaging the splined shafts or the windshield glass. Verify that the drains on your vehicle are entirely clear of debris before snapping the new panel into place. Leaving clogged drains will cause water to back up under the new cowl, regardless of how well the upper edge seals. Take care when pressing the panel into the windshield locking strip, as the plastic retaining tabs are sensitive to excessive force.
