What this part does
The front driveshaft is a critical component of the BMW xDrive all-wheel-drive system, responsible for transmitting rotational power from the transfer case to the front differential. It features a precision-balanced tubular design equipped with universal joints or constant velocity (CV) joints at the ends, which allow for engine torque delivery while accommodating the natural movement and flex of the drivetrain. Because it spins at engine output speeds, perfect balance is essential for smooth operation. When the joints fail or the shaft becomes unbalanced, it typically causes a pronounced metallic clunking sound when shifting from park to drive, or severe driveline vibrations and shuddering felt through the floorpan under heavy acceleration.

Before you order
Verify that your vehicle is equipped with the xDrive system, as standard rear-wheel-drive 7 Series models do not have a front differential or this corresponding driveshaft. It is highly recommended to inspect and replace the flexible rubber couplings (guibos) and the center support bearing if applicable, as installing a replacement driveshaft with worn mounting hardware will lead to rapid joint failure. Be sure to check the splines on your transfer case output flange for any signs of stripping or excessive wear prior to installation.
