What this part does
The electronic throttle body controls the volume of air entering the intake manifold based on the position of the accelerator pedal. Located on the intake plumbing of the BMW V8 engine, it utilizes an electric motor to precisely adjust the angle of the internal butterfly valve. If this actuator fails or the valve mechanism binds due to severe carbon buildup, the engine control module will typically trigger a failsafe or limp mode. Symptoms of a failing unit include a surging or unstable idle, stalling when coming to a stop, delayed throttle response, and multiple intake-related fault codes.

Before you order
The twin-turbocharged V8 engine utilizes two separate throttle bodies. This specific unit is for the right (passenger) side of the engine bay. Confirm which bank has logged the fault code before ordering, as the left and right assemblies are mounted differently. Once installed, the new throttle body will require an electronic adaptation reset via a capable OBD2 diagnostic tool to learn the fully closed and open positions. Failure to perform this reset will result in a high or erratic idle.
