What this part does
The tail light is mounted to the rear driver side of the vehicle, providing visibility to other motorists and signaling your braking and turning intentions. This complete assembly houses the lenses and internal reflectors for the brake, reverse, turn signal, and running lights. When the outer plastic lens cracks or the perimeter seal degrades, water intrusion will corrode the internal bulb contacts and lead to frequent bulb burnouts or short circuits in the rear lighting system.

This assembly is for pre-facelift (1997-2000) E39 sedans. Verify whether the vehicle it came from and your existing vehicle use the amber turn signal lenses or the clear turn signal lenses, as both were available and they will not match cosmetically if mixed. It is highly recommended to inspect your vehicle's original bulb carrier and wiring harness plug for any melted plastic around the ground pin, as ground faults are a known issue on this generation of 5 Series.
