What this part does
The A/C Compressor serves as the central pump for the vehicle's climate control system. Mounted to the engine block and driven by the accessory belt, it pressurizes the refrigerant gas and circulates it through the condenser and evaporator. When activated by the climate control module, the magnetic clutch engages the pulley to start the cooling cycle. A failing compressor often results in warm air from the vents, a grinding noise when the system is turned on, or a seized pulley that can damage the main serpentine belt.

Before you order
To ensure proper operation and prevent premature failure, the entire air conditioning system must be properly flushed before installing this replacement. Any metal shavings or debris left in the lines from the previous unit will immediately destroy the replacement pump.
It is standard procedure to replace the receiver drier (accumulator) and the expansion valve whenever opening the A/C system. Check that the electrical connector on your old compressor matches the magnetic clutch connector on this unit, as BMW used different harness plugs depending on the exact production month.
