What this part does
The Right Door is a primary body panel and structural component designed to enclose and secure the passenger cabin. It provides critical side-impact crash protection through high-strength internal safety bars and forms a watertight seal against the vehicle body to block moisture, wind, and road noise. Beyond its structural purpose, the door assembly acts as the central mounting framework for multiple interior mechanisms, housing the window glass, window regulator, power locks, exterior handle, and audio system speakers. A door typically requires replacement due to physical collision damage, severe structural dents, or hyper-extension of the hinges that warps the inner metal frame. When the shell is bent or compromised, it will no longer align properly with the vehicle latch or weatherstripping, causing persistent wind leaks, water intrusion, or a door that refuses to close safely.

Before you order
Used doors are generally sold as bare shells to save on shipping weight and prevent shipping damage to fragile glass. Unless explicitly shown otherwise, plan to transfer your existing interior door panel, window glass, window regulator, latch actuator, and exterior handle to this replacement shell. Even if the factory paint matches the vehicle it came from, UV exposure and natural weathering cause slight color variations over time; a professional body shop may need to blend the paint into the adjacent fender or quarter panel to ensure a seamless color transition.
If your replacement unit happens to include the internal electronic control modules, be aware that BMW systems require these modules to be coded and initialized to your vehicle's main computer using diagnostic software. Without this coding procedure, functions like the power windows, power folding mirrors, and soft-close automatic mechanisms may not operate. Finally, verify carefully whether you require a front right or rear right door, and note that long-wheelbase (G12) 7 Series models utilize a longer rear door than standard-wheelbase (G11) variants.
