What this part does
The water pump circulates engine coolant between the engine block, cylinder heads, and the radiator to maintain optimal operating temperatures. Positioned at the front of the engine block, it is driven by the accessory drive belt to maintain continuous fluid flow while the engine is running. When the pump bearings fail or the internal seals degrade, the vehicle will experience rapid overheating, visible coolant leaks at the front of the engine, or a persistent grinding noise from the pulley area.

Before you order
Because accessing the primary cooling components on the BMW 4.4L V8 is highly labor-intensive, it is standard practice to replace the thermostat and install a new metal gasket when fitting this replacement. Please note that these V8 engines utilize both a primary mechanical pump and separate auxiliary electric coolant pumps for the turbochargers; verify that the main engine pump is the exact component you need. Once installed, the system must be bled using the specific factory vacuum-fill procedure to eliminate air pockets, as trapped air will cause localized overheating and trigger engine fault codes.
