What this part does
The Third Brake Light is centrally mounted at the top or base of the rear windshield to provide an eye-level warning to following drivers. It illuminates simultaneously with the primary tail lights whenever the brake pedal is depressed, significantly reducing the chance of rear-end collisions. In modern luxury vehicles, these assemblies utilize integrated LED strips controlled by the lighting module. When this unit fails, it is typically due to moisture intrusion, burnt-out LED diodes, or a broken wire in the harness, which will trigger a bulb malfunction warning on the instrument cluster and result in a failed safety inspection.

Before you order
Verify that your original part number matches 024569901 exactly, as BMW lighting connections and mounting profiles can differ between the pre-facelift G11/G12 chassis and other variations. Before installing, inspect your vehicle's wiring harness connector for any signs of corrosion or heat damage. Ensure the sealing gasket around the mounting area is clean and seats flat to prevent future water intrusion into the trunk lid or cabin.
