What this part does
The brake caliper is the primary hydraulic clamping mechanism within the disc brake system. Mounted to the rear suspension knuckle, it houses the brake pistons and holds the brake pads in alignment with the brake rotor. When hydraulic pressure is applied through the brake lines, the pistons inside the caliper force the brake pads against the spinning rotor, creating the friction necessary to slow or stop the vehicle.
On this specific platform, the rear caliper also integrates with the electronic parking brake system. When a caliper begins to fail, the internal pistons or slide pins often seize. This causes the brake pads to drag against the rotor while driving, leading to excessive heat, rapid uneven pad wear, pulling to one side, or a soft brake pedal.

Before you order
Verify the diameter of the brake rotors on your vehicle before ordering. The Porsche Cayenne and Volkswagen Touareg platforms utilize multiple braking system configurations depending on the exact trim and optional equipment packages, requiring specific calipers for specific rotor sizes.
This rear caliper connects to the electronic parking brake (EPB) system. A diagnostic scan tool capable of retracting the electronic parking brake actuator is required for proper installation and pad replacement. Bleed the hydraulic system thoroughly after installation. While replacing a single caliper will restore function, it is standard industry practice to inspect and potentially replace hydraulic brake components in axle pairs to ensure balanced braking force and prevent vehicle pull under heavy braking.
