What this part does
The A/C Compressor acts as the central pump for the climate control system, driven by the engine accessory belt to pressurize and circulate refrigerant through the lines. On the BMW N63 V8, it mounts to the lower side of the engine block. When the internal seals or clutch fail, the system loses cooling capacity and struggles to defog the windows. Mechanical failure of the pulley bearing can also cause loud grinding noises and may lead to the serpentine belt snapping or slipping off entirely.

Before you order
The entire air conditioning system must be thoroughly flushed and a new receiver drier installed before bolting up a replacement A/C Compressor. If the previous unit suffered an internal mechanical failure, metal shards will remain in the lines and will quickly destroy the replacement part. Always replace the O-rings at the high and low-pressure connections, and ensure the proper amount of PAG oil is added as specified by BMW for the N63TU engine before charging the system with refrigerant.
