What this part does
The brake caliper mounts over the brake rotor and houses the brake pads and hydraulic pistons. When the brake pedal is depressed, fluid pressure forces the internal piston outward, clamping the pads against the spinning rotor to slow the vehicle. It is a critical component of the vehicle's active safety and braking system. A seized or failing caliper often results in a vehicle pulling to one side while braking, premature or uneven pad wear, a dragging sensation while driving, or excessive heat and a burning smell coming from the affected wheel.

Before you order
Calipers are side-specific; verify whether your vehicle requires the front left (driver) or front right (passenger) side before purchasing. When installing a replacement caliper, it is strongly recommended to inspect the flexible rubber brake hose connecting to it, as these hoses can collapse internally and mimic a seized caliper. A full brake fluid bleed of the affected line will be required after installation to remove air from the hydraulic system.
